WHEREAS, the Santa Cruz County Republican Central Committee recognizes that freedom of expression and diversity of political opinion are fundamental principles of a democratic society; and

WHEREAS, recent incidents have involved violent vandalism targeting Tesla vehicles, reportedly motivated by ideological opposition to Elon Musk, as well as vandalism against other vehicles displaying Trump stickers or American flags; and

WHEREAS, such acts of vandalism and destruction of private property are illegal, unacceptable, and undermine the principles of civil discourse and mutual respect; and

WHEREAS, violence or vandalism targeting individuals or their property based on political beliefs or affiliations, regardless of the ideology motivating such acts, threatens the safety and unity of our community; and

WHEREAS, the Santa Cruz County Republican Central Committee firmly believes that differences in political opinion should be addressed through peaceful dialogue, debate, and democratic processes, not through acts of aggression or destruction;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Santa Cruz County Republican Central Committee unequivocally condemns all acts of vandalism and violence against any person or property motivated by political differences, including but not limited to attacks on Tesla vehicles, vehicles displaying political symbols such as Trump stickers or American flags, or any other expressions of belief; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Committee calls upon all residents of Santa Cruz County, and specifically the Santa Cruz County Democratic Central Committee, regardless of political affiliation, to reject vandalism and violence as means of expressing disagreement and to engage in respectful, lawful, and constructive dialogue to resolve differences; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Committee urges local law enforcement to thoroughly investigate and prosecute those responsible for these acts of vandalism to ensure justice and deter future incidents; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be distributed to local media outlets, Santa Cruz County elected officials, the Santa Cruz County Democratic Central Committee, and community leaders to affirm the Santa Cruz County Republican Central Committee’s commitment to fostering a peaceful and respectful community for all.
